Türkiye visa requirements for Australians: tourist exemption
Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists Australian ordinary-passport holders as visa-exempt for tourist visits and transit for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Other passport types and purposes require separate checks.
Travelling on a different passport? Entry rules change with nationality. The worked examples below use an Australian passport, but our free visa checker shows provider data where available — confirm your own requirements with the destination’s official authority before booking.

The MFA Australia entry was checked for ordinary-passport tourist/transit exemption and the 90/180 limit. Other purposes and passport types are separate.
Sources and what they coverCorrection — 16 October 2026
This guide previously said Australians must buy an e-Visa and supplied conflicting 30-day and 90-day limits. The current ministry entry for Australia supersedes that advice.
Check passport type and purpose first
The exemption is stated for ordinary Australian passports. A work assignment, course, relocation or travel on an official passport is a different question. Read the Australia entry in the ministry’s nationality list, then ask the Turkish consulate about any activity outside that wording.
Count visits together
Make a list of earlier visits and the dates of the proposed trip. A rolling allowance is not a fresh entitlement at every arrival. If a return visit is close to the limit, obtain clarification before committing to flights. Record the permission granted at entry and keep it consistent with your departure plans.
What to organise before departure
- Check the current passport-validity rule with the ministry and your operating airline.
- Keep accommodation and onward travel details accessible.
- Confirm the permitted activity if the trip includes paid work, volunteering or study.
- Read local rules for medicines, driving and other planned activities using official guidance.
Cruise stops and airport connections
A cruise excursion or a flight connection has its own practical document checks. Ask whether you will pass immigration and whether the operator requires additional information. A transit label on a booking does not tell you whether you can remain airside or how baggage will be handled.
If an application is actually required
Use the route specified by the Turkish authorities for your passport and purpose. A paid third-party service is not the government itself. Compare the service, fee and conditions before submitting personal information. Do not buy an e-Visa solely because an outdated travel article says every Australian needs one.
