India e-Visa: separate validity, entry count and permitted stay

Choose the purpose before comparing the duration

Tourism, business, study and medical travel are different categories. Read the current category description and permitted activities before applying. Do not select a tourist permission simply because its duration appears convenient for work or study.

Read the three separate time limits

Record the date range during which the permission can be used, the number of permitted entries and any limit on a visit or cumulative stay. The official portal states that the one-year and five-year tourist categories have a maximum of 180 days in a calendar year. Check the selected category and any additional conditions on the approval itself.

Prepare an application you can verify

• Use the passport you will carry and compare the biographical information before submitting.
• Check the current photograph and document-upload instructions on the portal.
• Confirm the intended entry point appears on the current authorised list.
• Check the fee for your nationality and selected category; the official fee table distinguishes products and seasons.
• Save the reference and issued ETA offline and follow the instructions about presenting it.

Do not rely on a promised turnaround

Leave time for questions or corrections and monitor the application through the official status tool. A payment receipt or an agent’s email is not the same as approval. If the arrival date changes or an error appears, ask the authority how to correct it before travelling.

Keep longer travel plans lawful

If the itinerary depends on a stay or activity outside the issued permission, resolve that before departure. Do not treat a short exit, another booking or an online anecdote as an extension. The official portal explains limits on extending or converting e-Visas.
