Morocco entry for Australians: visa exemption and documents
DFAT advises that Australians generally do not need a visa for visits to Morocco of less than 90 days. Check the full entry conditions and your own purpose before relying on that general rule.
Travelling on a different passport? Entry rules change with nationality. The worked examples below use an Australian passport, but our free visa checker shows provider data where available — confirm your own requirements with the destination’s official authority before booking.
Review scope: 25 October 2026
DFAT’s Australian short-visit guidance was checked. The calendar and arrival-logistics examples are planning exercises; no individual extension or regional safety clearance is implied.

We removed unsupported current-price estimates, financial benchmarks and automatic extension or safety assurances. The authorised stay and official destination guidance take priority.
Check more than the headline exemption
An employment, study or long-stay plan needs a separate check. Confirm passport validity, onward travel and any supporting documents with Moroccan authorities. Keep the accommodation address and a clear explanation of the route accessible at arrival.
Check the entry record
Make sure you understand the arrival record and the departure deadline. If a stamp or record is missing or unclear, ask the authority promptly. Do not build a later itinerary around an assumed date that has never been confirmed.
- Compare the planned dates with the applicable visitor rules.
- Check the requirements for every separate country on a regional itinerary.
- Keep a backup way to reach the first accommodation if the phone cannot connect.
- Use the official process for an extension rather than relying on a border trip.
Treat a southern route as its own safety decision
The official advisory applies different guidance to some areas, including the Western Sahara region. Check the precise route rather than relying on a broad description of Morocco as easy or safe. Confirm hire-car permission, insurance and border arrangements before committing to a remote drive.
Prepare a practical arrival plan
Agree on pickup arrangements with the accommodation or a reputable operator and save the details offline. Keep some flexibility for arrival delays. This is a planning recommendation, not a promise about immigration queues, taxi prices or local conditions.
Fit the complete trip inside the permitted visit
Illustrative planning example: adding four days to an 87-day itinerary produces 91 days. That arithmetic does not determine your individual status, but it shows why an apparently small hotel change needs another permission check. Ask Moroccan authorities about the applicable extension or category before relying on the longer booking.
| Trip choice | What to resolve |
|---|---|
| Ordinary short tourist visit | Passport, purpose, dates and onward evidence |
| Longer residence, study or work | The appropriate official category rather than an assumed tourist extension |
| Regional side trip | Each national entry and the return conditions |
| Remote drive or Western Sahara route | Current regional advice, vehicle conditions and insurance |
For arrival logistics, record the pickup point, the host’s contact method and what happens if the flight changes. Use a dated quote and agreed conditions rather than a universal airport taxi-price claim. Keep a backup way to reach the accommodation if the phone cannot connect.
