Thailand DTV: visa validity, permitted stays and application evidence
Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa has categories including workcation, specified activities and eligible dependants. A five-year visa validity period does not mean permission for one uninterrupted five-year stay.
Correction — 16 October 2026
The claimed first-person application, approval timing and airport interview were not substantiated and have been removed. So have universal fee, tax and local-work assurances.
Separate visa validity from each stay
The Thai Embassy in London’s guidance, updated in September 2026, describes five-year multiple-entry validity and up to 180 days per entry, with a possible one-time extension of up to 180 days through Thai Immigration. Follow the actual permission granted and current extension conditions. The visa’s final validity date is not the same as the authorised departure date for each stay.
Use the mission responsible for your application
Start at the Thai e-Visa portal and identify the competent embassy or consulate for your actual residence and location. Requirements published by London are evidence for that mission’s process, not an Australian fee quote or a universal document checklist. Do not follow the former article’s account of applying from inside Thailand.
Prepare category-specific evidence
- Confirm whether workcation, an eligible activity or dependant status matches the real purpose.
- Check identity, residence, financial, employment or activity evidence in the current mission instructions.
- Check any police-certificate, translation and document-age requirements before ordering records.
- Use the official fee and submission process for the responsible mission.
- Allow for further-document requests; no personal account here establishes a processing guarantee.
Permission is not a tax ruling
Do not treat DTV approval as a blanket right to take Thai employment or a guarantee that income is tax-exempt in either country. Check the scope of the permitted activity and obtain advice on personal tax residence and reporting if working abroad. Those questions are separate from a tourist-entry summary.
After approval
Check the passport, category and visa details, then record the stay granted on arrival. For an extension, follow Thai Immigration’s current process before the permission expires. Recheck requirements after a passport or family-status change rather than relying on an old checklist.
