Australian passport renewal: check fees, timing and the delivery step
The Australian Passport Office’s fee schedule lists a ten-year adult passport at A$422 and an additional A$308 for eligible priority processing as of 1 January 2026. Processing and delivery are separate parts of the plan.
Review scope: 25 October 2026
The Passport Office’s 2026 adult and priority fees were checked. Processing, eligibility and delivery remain separate; the A$730 example is arithmetic.

The previous first-person renewal account and claimed receipts could not be verified from the project records. They have been removed, along with incorrect fees and approval-time assurances.
Check what the service actually promises
Read the current Passport Office processing guidance and eligibility before selecting a faster service. Account for lodging the application, any request for more information and receiving the document. A processing target should not be described as a guarantee that the passport will be in your hand by a flight date.
Prepare before the lodgement appointment
- Check whether you qualify for renewal or need a different application.
- Follow the current photograph and document instructions.
- Check appointment availability and the required supporting documents.
- Use the official fee and service guidance rather than an old receipt or blog price.
Check the trip before paying for changes
Review the passport rule for the actual destination and any transit countries. The familiar six-month rule is not universal, and its reference date can differ. Keep the itinerary beside the Passport Office advice when deciding how urgent the application is.
If departure is close
Contact the Passport Office through its official channel before relying on a particular outcome. Give the actual travel date and circumstances. Keep booking-change options open and do not assume that paying for faster processing removes every document or delivery risk.
Separate the application charge from the faster service
Using the published 2026 amounts, a ten-year adult passport at A$422 plus eligible priority processing at A$308 totals A$730 before any other applicable charge. That is arithmetic using those two listed services, not a guarantee of eligibility or delivery before a flight. Check whether your application qualifies for the service and how the passport will reach you.
| Stage | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Prepare | Renewal eligibility, photo and supporting documents |
| Lodge | Where and when a complete application can be lodged |
| Process | Which published service applies and what can interrupt it |
| Receive | Collection or delivery arrangements |
| Update travel records | Any visa, authorisation or airline details linked to the replaced passport |
A near-term flight makes the whole chain important. If you can lodge today but cannot establish receipt before departure, paying a priority fee does not settle the travel plan. Contact the Passport Office about the actual date and circumstances, and keep the airline’s change options beside its advice.
